Most car owners want to take pride in their vehicle and would like their old car to look a bit more fresh. If you do the following then you'll have your old car looking like it just rolled off the lot again:

* Give it a wash! Don't just use any old washing liquids, some people use washing liquid not realizing it can be bad for the paint, instead get some specialist detergent designed for cars. Just go to the closest auto part store and you will have a massive choice of cleaning products.

* Give your car a once over and find any scratches that can be filled in with a buffer and wax. If you can't buff them out you can try retouch paint that can be found in most auto parts stores for pretty cheap. Read the directions and stick to what they say about drying and washing times. Your car will both look nicer without scratches but also be more resistant to rust and other corrosion that can damage a car.

* Make sure you use decent quality wax, it will protect the cars finish from the every changing elements. Ask the people at the auto store what kind of wax you should use because there are plenty of options, some better for certain climates and cars. Do not go crazy with electric buffers, they are great for getting the job done quickly but if you don't know what you're doing you can damage the paintwork.

* Keep the tires and wheels sparkling. Buy a cleaner designed to bring your wheels out beautifully, it has to be able to handle brake dust so bear that in mind. You may need to get down on your knees with a toothbrush to really get inside all the cracks and crevices. Make sure you dry the wheels properly otherwise the water can leave nasty looking patterns. Where the tires are concerned use a sealing product that will make them water repellent. This way dry rot need not be a problem in the future.

* Grab a vacuum and let the interior have it! Take out any floor mats and clean them on their own. Any normal carpet cleaners will work just fine here. Work out all of the stains you can. Now vacuum thoroughly because the cleaning solutions will have left things behind.

* Get some window cleaner and clean all glass surfaces on the inside, such as the windows, mirrors, gages etc. Pay extra attention when cleaning the windshield because any streaks left behind will become visible when the windows fog. Most auto insurance involves the option to have your windscreen replaced if need be. For any damaged windows or windscreens it may be an idea getting them replaced, depending how much it will cost.

* Any interior you have yet cleaned used a protector product and clean it, don't forget the shifters, steering wheel, dash, door handles etc. Once everything has been nicely cleans the interior will look great and will now be protected against further damage.

* Empty the trunk. Empty the trunk and whatever you don't need get rid of, then vacuum and clean it. Any buildup of mildew or mold will cause the trunk to smell. When you are not carrying around useless heavy things your gas mileage should improve as well.
